(Eco) Tower Final

This was a group project with my great friend Marius Slawik.  These are the final form and renderings  from the previous tower related posts.

Light Workshop

This was a week long workshop dealing with light and wood construction.  The concept was to create a space around the column, by connecting both walls with a strip of wood.  The curving strips of wood make a canopy and a space around the column.  This makes the awkward unused corner a place of conversation and meeting.  The wood strips were cut from 4 2×6 pine boards then laminated to plywood ends.  The cut boards bend while the plywood stiffens the delicate strips for connection to the structure.

(Eco) Tower

These images are from early concept and form development.  The Project is a minimum 300 meter “Eco” tower sited in Munich Germany.

Parametric Tower

This was a test of different Parametric tools during the last day of our Grasshopper workshop.  These Ideas are not based on Structural efficiency but a way of testing these scripts.

This is a simple script I was given to modified the way we wanted.  Two quick versions.  A slender twisting taper and then a twisted base which becomes moreregular to the top.  This is the beginning of our final studio project Eco Tower. So some tests.

Surface too Room

This was a continuation of the Strips project.  The room is designed as a module in a collective housing project for the elderly.  The strip wall was placed on the fourth wall to open the room up to a courtyard.  It is porous surface which allows one room to be opened to the next.  A thick curtain can close off the room for privacy and acoustic isolation.  The surface was then applied too all the surfaces of the room to create privacy and openness, depending on the what part of the room it is located.  The bathroom is completely closed, while the sleeping area progressively opens up to view the sky and garden.

My first script

Here is the first Script I made last year.  I have not done much since that project last year but, this week i am back on the wagon.  We are using the software to look into some starting forms for our eco tower project.

 

Private -> Public

This two day project was an experiment in making spaces that had a variation between open and closed.  This is done by adjusting the thickness and distance between each strip.  The Canopy is solid then opens, while making the structure lighter and more of a fabric than a solid roof.  The Rest Area is a place to sit, sleep, read and relax.  It is originally more closed with a solid roof.  The structure and roof peal apart and expand to allow more people to enjoy the space.  The Canopy and the Rest Area I took a different approach.  the Canopy has a rigid base geometry with the strips changing; while the Rest Area has a similar structure, and an changing base geometry.

Grasshopper Trials2

Last year I had a project about these strips with Grasshopper( a plug-in for Rhino).  Well it is back again.  I will post some more of the old project after I can finish some edits.
